Cathedral Musicians

Darryl Roland, Canon Precenter, Organist, and Choirmaster

Dr. Roland is Canon Precentor and Organist/Choirmaster at the Cathedral Church of Saint John where he also serves as Artistic Director of the Cathedral Choir School of Delaware. Dr. Roland specializes in the choral training of children. In addition to receiving his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and Performer’s Certificate in Organ from the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Roland holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Lebanon Valley College. He also has observed the choral techniques of several musicians who are nationally recognized for their work with children, including John Bertalot, Frank Boles, Bruce Neswick, and Charles Olegar. Dr. Roland is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians and the Royal School of Church Music, a professional organization that promotes excellence in the musical education of young people. Matthew Boatmon, Master of Music, Canon Musician

Mr. Boatmon is currently the Canon Musician and Associate Organist at the Cathedral Church of Saint John. In addition to his experience as a church musician, Mr. Boatmon has concertized frequently as an organ soloist as well as a piano accompanist for instrumentalists and vocalists. Mr. Boatmon has won several local and national competitions. In 1987, he won the first prize of the Arthur Poister Scholarship Competition in Syracuse, New York and in 1984 he represented Region V of the American Guild of Organist at the national Playing Competition in San Francisco. Mr. Boatmon received his Masters of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate at the Eastman School of Music and Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Evansville, Indiana. Noted organ teachers include Russell Saunders, Douglas Reed, Wilma Jensen, and Mark X. Hatfield. When Mr. Boatmon is not at the Cathedral serving as Canon Musician, he works as a Financial Advisor for American Express Financial Services. Contact him!
